Peer review procedure
To ensure a high scientific standard, mdwPress implements quality assurance measures at every step of the publication process: First, the mdwPress coordination checks whether the application form formally meets the submission requirements. In the next step, the Academic Board reviews the content of the submitted publication projects and decides on their inclusion in the publishing program. Depending on the publication format and subject area, the Academic Board may recommend additional quality assurance measures.
In the subsequent peer review process, mdwPress is generally committed to double-blind peer review. In certain exceptional cases, such as non-academic or artistic research contributions to edited volumes, alternative solutions can be found. Peer review by anonymous external reviewers is organized by the mdwPress Coordination.
Upon completion of the peer review, the reviews are submitted to the mdwPress Academic Board, which decides on further steps in the case of recommended revisions and continues the publication process in dialog with the authors/editors. Afterwards, the mdwPress Academic Board and the mdwPress Coordination check whether the reviews have been followed and whether all quality assurance requirements have been met. Each publication is also checked for text identities in cooperation with the Competence Center for Academic Integrity.
For each publication, the quality assurance measures taken are documented in the “About mdwPress” section.
