Purdue University Press
Peer review procedure
Purdue University Press titles undergo a thorough review process prior to publication. Proposals are first evaluated by the acquiring editor for novelty, fit, thoroughness of research and utilization of primary and secondary sources, and quality of writing. If a proposal is approved, the manuscript is then sent to at least two external readers who are recognized as subject-matter experts. The acquiring editor will then share the reviews with the author along with his or her suggestions and points of emphasis. The author must write a formal response outlining their proposed revisions, which the acquiring editor must then approve. If the initial reviews disagree in key ways, the revised manuscript will then be sent to a third reader. After the external review process is complete, Purdue Press’s editorial board reviews the entire docket, which consists of the author’s CV and qualifications, manuscript, all reviews, the author’s response to the reviews, and the acquiring editor’s assessment of the manuscript and final recommendation. Only after editorial board approval is a book published.
